Charlotte Straker provides a wide range of social activities in which residents are free to participate should they wish. We have a dedicated full time Activities Coordinator who arranges daily, weekly and monthly events. These include a regular art class, quizzes, live music, crafting afternoons, beauty afternoons, book groups, board games and themed lunches. Each day residents are invited to gather in the lounge for a pre-lunch drink.
A Church of England Communion service is held in the house every month and the volunteer library service provide a service offering a wide selection of books for all tastes in normal and large print as well as audio cassettes for those residents with impaired vision. A shop trolley is provided once a week by volunteers.
We also encourage residents to take full advantage of the specialist transport provided to visit places throughout the region.
Our outings include drama and music at the Queen’s Hall Hexham, local garden centres, craft and gift fairs, fish and chips at the seaside and shopping at garden centres. Those with a passion for sport can be taken to see the local cricket and football teams in action.
We have organised free of charge complimentary therapies to be offered to all our residents (provided by qualified staff from Naturel Therapies in Hexham), and free of charge reflexology sessions are offered to residents by a qualified volunteer.
Residents are not allowed to keep pets in the house but Ted, the “Wag and Company” therapy dog visits fortnightly!
