Making model aeroplanes

By 3rd September, 2019 News Comments Off

Our senior carer Keith has been spending time with our resident Alan, making Airfix copies of World War 2 aeroplanes.

The models were a bit fiddly, but Alan read the instructions and ensured each plane was painted in the correct colours, and Keith helped with the very small pieces.

During World War 2, Alan joined the RAF as a Radio Operator/Gunner and flew with his Squadron in Scotland, West Africa, America and the Bahamas. Alan worked his way up to Flight Lieutenant, and did two operational tours.

He has always been very interested in flying and his room displays his World War 2 medals and pictures of the aircraft he served on in the war.

It’s very important that our residents are still able to enjoy the hobbies and interests they had before they moved to Charlotte Straker House, so Keith and Alan enjoyed chatting about the different capabilities of the models of aircraft – Alan’s favourite is the B24 Liberator.

Reading the instructions carefully!
