This is our list of exciting events planned in 2018.  More information can be found on our Events Page.

This year will be our Centenary Year, as it is 100 years since Charlotte Straker House was founded in 2017. We have lots of events arranged around this theme.

And please don’t forget our second hand book sale at Brocksbushes Tearoom this weekend – we are raising funds for our Community Respite Care bed.

Our Chinese Dragon Dance to welcome in the Chinese New Year!

By 18th February, 2018 News Comments Off

We held a Chinese banquet to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Friday 16th February. Everyone sat down to a delicious lunch, home made by Head Cook Debbie, plus authentic chinese music, and prawn crackers and fortune cookies.

And we had a special guest that visited to wish everyone good luck for the coming year!

Many thanks to the staff and our Activities Coordinator who planned the day, and of course to our amazing Chinese Dragon.

And we especially loved the bit when the Dragon got his tail stuck!

Thanks to our Fundraising Committee, Naturel Therapies providing weekly massages til 2019!

By 12th February, 2018 News Comments Off

Thank you to our Fundraising Committee, our residents are able to enjoy regular massage therapy with Simon from Naturel Therapies. The cost of the massages are now funded until March 2019.

The therapy is a huge success with 16 residents regularly taking up the appointments and over 200 free massages given so far.

Two of our residents book privately so that they can have a massage every week, in-between their free appointments.

In all, it is the most popular activity Charlotte Straker offers.

One of our ladies, who has a regular massage commented “I have a back massage every Thursday, which loosens painful muscles in my neck and shoulders. It’s very soothing, and I often drop off to sleep.”

The photo shows Joyce enjoying her weekly back massage from the talented therapist Simon.

Charity Gin Tasting Evening raises over £900 for our residents.

We all had a great night yesterday at our #charity gin tasting hosted by Majestic Wine.

Mark Winters, Manager of the Majestic Wine store, guided guests through many different types of gin and mixers, including those from local distillers. The rhubarb gin was a particular favourite!

Many thanks to Mark Winters, and our Trustee Ashley Winters, for organising the event.

The evening raised over £900, which means that we will be able to buy a special reclining chair for our residents and respite patients at Charlotte Straker House.

HUGE thanks to those who came and supported us, and raised such a generous amount for our charity!

Thank you to the Tynedale Gift Fair for £3,000 donation!

A very big THANK YOU to the Tynedale Gift Fair who have donated £3,000 to us from this year’s very successful Gift Fair at Matfen Hall.

This extremely generous donation will go towards essential equipment at Charlotte Straker House. At our last audit, we were told that 17 of our specialist nursing mattresses needed to be replaced – a huge cost to our team. This donation will pay for all these mattresses – thank to everyone on the Tynedale Gift Fair team for their donation!

Thank you to the amazing Brocksbushes Farm Shop & Tea Room for choosing us as their Charity of the Year 2018!

We had such a rewarding year at Brocksbushes in 2017, raising an impressive total of £4,000 which will go towards the purchase of some essential new equipment (brand new hospital grade beds and reclining chairs) for nursing, residential and respite patients at Charlotte Straker House.

This year, we will be joining some of the Sampling Saturdays through out 2018 (dates here) and our Crafty Women will again be part of their annual Summer and Christmas Fayres.

Thank you to Caroline, Amanda and the hardworking team at Brocksbushes for allowing us to join them again through 2018!
