Care for the elderly in Northumberland.
Thank you to the Angel of Corbridge for holding their recent Quiz night – they raised £1240 and have generously sponsored a week in our Community Respite Care Bed. We were delighted to give Kevin Laing, Managing Director of the Angel, a certificate in thanks for the sponsorship. The photo shows Kevin receiving the sponsorship certificate from our Registered Manager Marilyn Hunter, alongside the Angel’s Marketing Manager Patricia Lopez and Angela Jones, our Chair of the Fundraising Committee. Thank you to everyone who came to the Quiz, had such an excellent evening and raised money for such a good cause!
Our Community Respite Care Bed is an essential part of the local community and is entirely funded by donations and grants. We provide high quality short respite care breaks for those under and over 65 years of age, who need 24 hour nursing care. These are charity funded and are entirely free of charge to the end user. We now have vacancies in our bed during 2020, so please contact our Deputy Manager on 01434 633 999 for more information and to book a respite stay.
Our Hair and Nail Salon was officially opened on Monday, with resident Joy Lawson asked to cut the red ribbon alongside Marilyn Hunter our Registered Manager and Joan Robson, hairdresser.
The salon is now fully fitted out with a nail bar, hairdressing chair and resources and has wonderful “sparkly” covered walls. It is designed to provide an authentic “salon experience” for our residents and has everything you would expect in a high street hairdressers.
Thank you to Jayne Purvis, our Activities Coordinator, who raised enough funds during a Charity Race Night in 2019 to allow us to create the salon. Having an updated décor and fully fitted out salon makes such a difference to our residents who can now enjoy a pampering session in a comfortable and much more luxurious environment.
We celebrated Chinese New Year last week with a delicious chinese lunch, prepared by Debbie, our Head Cook and her team. The dining room was decorated for the festival by Debbie and Jayne, our Activity Coordinator. As usual, our Chinese “dragon dance” was a huge hit with the residents, and everyone enjoyed listening to and joining in with the chinese music, and sampling all the different types of food.

Thank you to the ladies of the Crafty Women who have sponsored our Community Respite Care Bed this week.
They work hard all year creating beautiful hand made items to be sold in various fairs and fetes to raise money for our charity. We visited the group at their weekly meeting and presented a certificate to Rosie Cunningham, Chair of the Crafty Women and her team to thank them for all their hard work.
Our Community Respite Care Bed costs £46,500 per annum and is entirely funded through grants and donations. We have helped over 30 local families and are now taking bookings right through 2020. If you would like to book a short term respite care break in the bed please contact our Deputy Manager on 01434 633 999.
The latest photos from our new room and hair and nail salon. As you can see our brand new en-suite room is ready and our very sparkly hair/nail salon is very nearly finished! All the works should be finished around the third week in February and the builders are just making the finishing touches to our newly extended reception and administration office. Thank you to everyone for being so patient with the noise and dust – we will show you the final pictures when everything is completely finished.
Thank you to all those who came to the sold out charity quiz night at the Angel of Corbridge last week. A delicious fish and chip supper was served and the quiz master Alistair Jenkins set some brilliant and challenging questions, and after a closely fought competition the Quoits Batters’ team emerged as the winners.
Thanks to the generosity of the Angel and the quiz attendees we raised £1240 for our Community Respite Care Bed.
Many many thanks to Kevin Laing, managing director at the Angel Inn, Corbridge for hosting the event and all the staff who were so helpful and accommodating. (Pictures by Ian Wylie)
