Care for the elderly in Northumberland.
Thank you VERY MUCH to local author LJ Ross who donated (through the The Corbridge Larder), groceries and goodies to our Charlotte Straker staff – this is wonderful and very much appreciated!
Our residents Maureen, Olive and John enjoyed a haircut, courtesy of Emily, a member of our Housekeeping department.
Emily used to be a hairdresser and stayed behind after her shift to make sure the residents who normally have their hair cut and set by our hairdresser, continue to look their best. John also needed a cut as his hair was starting to get long. Everyone was very pleased with their new hair styles!
Huge thanks to Emily for staying after a long shift – everyone is pulling together to ensure that residents aren’t missing out on their usual routines and requirements.
Tynedale Rotary have donated £250 for the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for our nursing and care staff team at the Charlotte Straker Project – thank you so much for your generosity!
Thank you also to all the businesses and individuals listed below for their donations of PPE – the generosity of individual companies has been amazing and we are very grateful.
Alistair Hunter from Brenntag Group UK and Ireland (a chemical distribution company) organised a delivery of glasses, gloves and masks which arrived last week. Many thanks to Brenntag for such a generous donation – it will make a big difference to our staff.
Thank you to Northumberland County Council for their donation of face masks.
Thank you to Bob Singh & the Washington Volunteers for their donation of hand sanitiser
Thank you to J S Hubbuck ltd at Hexham Mart for their donation of boxes of gloves for PPE.
Thanks to the Co-op in Corbridge for loaning us two shopping trolleys.
Thank you to Thermo Fisher Scientific in Cramlington for the donations of Tyvex Suits for PPE
Thank you to Laura Johnson for the kind donation of face masks for PPE.
Thank you to David Maughan for the donation of full suits and facemasks for PPE.
The photos below shows our Deputy Manager Claudia, with the box of Brenntag PPE and also a very welcome box of chocolates and lovely card for the staff.
The Crafty Women delivered 22 gowns to Charlotte Straker last weekend – all sewn by volunteer seamstresses in Corbridge. Claudia, our Deputy Manager, is holding up just one of the gowns – thank you very much to all the Crafty Women for working so hard.
Also thank you very much to Susan R and Karen U from Corbridge who are busily making sets of scrubs for our staff. Scrubs are designed to be simple (with minimal places for contaminants to hide) and easy to wash at high temperatures – essential for our care staff. Thank you Susan and Karen!
Thank you to all those who organised such lovely arrangements to brighten up Charlotte Straker over Easter. Helen, our Kitchen Assistant, made some beautifully decorated eggs for the residents and the chocolate eggs were hidden in some woolly chicks! Each resident was also given a spring plant to put in their own room.
Over Easter, Corbridge Church livestreamed their Easter Sunday service. Our Deputy Manager Lesley organised to have the service on screen in the upstairs lounge. It was wonderful to see the Rev. David and we were delighted that he blessed the staff and residents at Charlotte Straker in his opening announcements. Thank you to Corbridge Church for arranging such a comforting way for us to celebrate the Easter season.
A message from our Registered Manager:
If any individual or organisation has any surplus PPE (personal protective equipment) please could they contact us direct?
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the office on 01434 633 999.
We have received some wonderful handdrawn rainbows and pictures from local children – our residents love them, and they have cheered everyone up.
To help, would you like to send a message to our residents? Maybe a cheerful photo, hand drawn picture or sign? We would LOVE to receive them and it would certainly bring a smile to our staff and our residents at this difficult time.
If you would like to, please take a photo of your message or artwork and email email@example.com and we will collate them all and send some photos back! Thank you to you all – we’re so grateful to work in a very supportive community.
Don’t forget that on Thursdays at 8pm is #ClapforCarers and #ClapfortheNHS, where our community comes together to thank all of those working on the front line in health and care settings. We are SO proud of ALL of our staff, who are working very hard, under stressful circumstances, to keep our vulnerable residents, safe, healthy and free from anxiety. This video was taken last week and shows our staff outside Charlotte Straker House clapping and cheering!
