Care for the elderly in Northumberland.

Our residents enjoy a cookery lesson (and eating the cakes afterwards!)

We had a wonderful time at a cookery lesson, organised by our Activities Coordinator and kitchen staff last week.

A lot of our residents used to bake and cook every day for their families, and really enjoyed the chance to remember old skills.

We made little sponge cakes and cheese straws and discussed different baking tips and recipes.

Rolling out pastry, cracking eggs and beating sugar and butter is also very good exercise, helping to keep hands and arms relaxed and supple.

The afternoon led to reminiscing about old times and sharing some very useful tips – with lots of laughing and happy chat.

Everyone enjoyed the resulting cakes and cheese straws. We’ll definitely be incorporating cookery and baking into our regular activities schedule.
