Reading afternoons lead to a renewed friendship

Marian, a resident in our care home, was enjoying listening to our volunteer Jean read a new book, when she suddenly realised that she knew the author involved.

Jean had chosen “Beestings & Boilie: Memories of a Northumberland Childhood” by Maggie Bardsley as the book for her regular “reading afternoons”.

It is a wonderful account of the author’s childhood in Northumberland and Marian realised that she knew Kath, the sister of the author, from over 60 years ago!

Jean managed to organise a video call between Maggie and Marian and they had a wonderful afternoon reminicsing about earlier days and their friendship together.

(In the photo below Marian is holding up a copy of the book and a photo of Kath that Maggie sent her over email.)
