Care for the elderly in Northumberland.
We had a lovely afternoon last week talking about our latest “Beamish Reminiscence Box”. These boxes are from the Beamish Museum and are filled with vintage items that encourage our residents to chat about their own lives and join in a discussion about happy times in the past.
This week’s box was all about the seaside, and we enjoyed looking at the old picnic items, beach toys and bucket and spades. Whilst we were chatting, everyone enjoyed an icecream!
Talking about our childhood holidays and about the photos and items was fascinating, especially finding out how much it cost to stay in all the hotels, farmhouses and campsites. Predecimal money can be confusing, so resident Margaret (who used to be a teacher) took the time to explain and write down the old “shillings and pence” values.
