We need volunteers to help our fundraising!

Our events and fundraising committee are staffed by volunteers. Could you help by joining our team? We need enthusiastic committee members who can suggest new fundraising ideas and help with events to help us raise much needed funds for Charlotte Straker House. We have a proactive Fundraising Committee, that meets monthly, to organise a programme of varied fundraising events, in order to support the Charlotte Straker Project.

We have enjoyed organising golf and cricket matches, fashion shows, gin tasting evenings, christmas dinner and dancing, movie nights and much more, all to raise money for the Charlotte Straker Project.

Win a Unique Handcrafted Sashiko Quilt

The Charlotte Straker Project is delighted to offer the chance to win a truly special prize: a stunning handcrafted Sashiko quilt, generously created and donated by the talented members of the Corbridge Sewing Bee.

This beautiful one-of-a-kind quilt is made up of 365 individual squares, each featuring its own unique Sashiko pattern. Every stitch reflects the skill, dedication, and creativity of the makers, resulting in a remarkable piece of textile art that would make a treasured addition to any home.

What is Sashiko?

Sashiko (meaning “little stabs” or “little piercings”) is a traditional Japanese embroidery technique dating back hundreds of years. Originally developed in rural Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868), Sashiko was used to reinforce, repair, and extend the life of clothing and household textiles.

Using simple running stitches, artisans created intricate geometric patterns that were both practical and beautiful. Over time, these patterns became celebrated as an art form in their own right, symbolising craftsmanship, resilience, and the beauty of handmade work.

Today, Sashiko is admired around the world for its striking designs, rich heritage, and mindful stitching techniques.
