Last week we enjoyed the sunny weather by sitting in the gardens and on the decking of Charlotte Straker House. As a special treat, an ice cream van from Tyne Valley Ices visited and everyone definitely enjoyed cooling off with delicious 99’s, scoops and cones.

Update from Berenice Groves, Chair of the Trustees

We are very pleased that the government restrictions are slowly lifting to cautiously allow care home residents to enjoy outings and to receive family visitors. As you know our first priority at the Charlotte Straker Project has always been the safety and wellbeing of residents, colleagues and visitors.  With this in mind, we carefully follow guidance issued by Central Government, NHS, Public Health England and The Care Quality Commission in all relevant matters.

We are therefore delighted to be able to update our visiting policy in line with the latest Government guidance, to allow nominated family members to enter Charlotte Straker House to visit their loved ones . We know how desperately upsetting it has been not to be able to hold hands with your relatives so we are incredibly relieved that we are allowed to put steps in place to enable this to happen.

Please click on the link https://charlottestraker.org.uk/covid-19-update/ to read further information including new information documents, including a Frequently Asked Questions section about our current visiting policies.

Pam and I would like to send our thanks to everyone for their understanding and patience. We are still very well aware of the risks associated with lifting some of these restrictions and you have our promise that we will carefully research all the new advice, and update our policies to ensure that your family members remain safe and well.

As ever, please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 01434 633 999 or click here to email if you would like to discuss any matter in relation to the precautions we are putting in place.

Berenice Groves, Chair of the Trustees

Like all of our staff, Nicola Pick – our Head Housekeeper, works extremely hard at Charlotte Straker.

In recent months however, Nicola has continued to excel in her support of our organisation. Nicola takes her role as Head Housekeeper extremely seriously and prides herself in the personalised approach to the care and attention that she and her team apply to housekeeping here at Charlotte Straker House.

In recent months, she has been pivotal in moving our refurbishment plans forward and to our continued efforts to provide a homely environment to those choosing to make Charlotte Straker their home.

In presenting Nicola with this bouquet of flower, Registered Manager, Pam Crawley said “ Nicola works so hard, is so flexible and is supporting us to drive our home development forward and for these reasons, I wanted to let Nicola know how important she is and how grateful I am to have her as a part of our team here at Charlotte Straker project.”

Berenice Groves, Chair of the Trustees commented, “Myself and the Board of Trustees would like to add their thanks to Nicola – she is a wonderful member of staff and there have been many occasions where she has gone above and beyond to support our organisation.”

We are keen to keep our residents as active as possible and as we focus on gearing activities up safely, our lovely members of staff Kerri and Alice (see photo above!) are ensuring that each resident is receiving one-to-one attention, activities and entertainment. They recently organised a football evening as our residents were keen to watch the Italy vs England match. Although we were all disappointed with the result, everyone had a great time eating the snacks and reminiscing about previous matches, including the 1966 result. Alice and Kerri will be available every day for general conversations, puzzles, reading, writing, manicures etc as well as arranging smaller group activities.

Our first priority at the Charlotte Straker Project must be the safety and wellbeing of residents, colleagues and visitors to our home.

With this in mind, we carefully following guidance issued by Central Government, NHS, Public Health England and The Care Quality Commission with all matters concerning visitors.

We have updated our current visiting policies, and we have also created a Frequently Asked Questions document for relatives and key contacts – please click below to read.
