Mini Horse Magic comes to Charlotte Straker
Katy Smith from K L Pony Therapy visited Charlotte Straker House last week, and brought some “mini horse magic” to our residents! A tiny chestnut Shetland pony called Cartier visited residents and even travelled upstairs in our lift to meet those who are unable to leave their rooms. Katy owns eight therapy ponies and said “our visits are designed to be very tactile, calming and soothing and our ponies are specially trained to meet people, and love the attention”. Our residents adored little Cartier and even those who were a little unsure soon enjoyed patting and talking to the tiny pony. Dorothy said “he is so small and I love his soft coat.” Sandra said “Oh he’s adorable! And so good about being inside.” Jessie wasn’t too keen at first but when Cartier came a little closer, she couldn’t resist stroking his mane and nose. Pam Crawley, Registered Manager added, “it was wonderful to see Katy again and Cartier the pony. These therapy sessions are lovely as our residents absolutely love stroking and talking to the pony and chatting about the animals that they’ve owned in the past. The fact that Cartier will calmly visit bedrooms is a huge bonus, and the visits especially helps those who are bed bound, or have poor mobility and eyesight.”
